Band-Aids and Gift Cards

Seriously what is it with kids and getting a bandage? Do your kids love them too? For Alyssa, wearing a band-aid is like a status symbol of some kind. She’ll insist on a band-aid for any and every thing that happens to her. Bonked head, hurt feelings, a TV show ending, basically everything that makes her sad, is fixable with a band-aid.

In an effort to not go through a box a week, the new rule is there must be blood or inflammation of some kind in order to attain bandage status.

When she does get a bandage, that to her means the appendage to which the band-aid is affixed is rendered useless as long as the band-aid is attatched. If it’s on her right hand, she’ll only use her left hand. If it’s on her leg she’ll keep the leg totally stiff I guess to preserve the life of the band-aid. It’s weird.

My mom bought her some Dora band-aids, you’d think she’d be crazy over them. She does like them, but she prefers the plain brown band-aid.

Moving on….

We took just Alyssa out to dinner and left Sunny and Grandma’s house. It was a Daddy Mommy Lyssa date. She needed some extra attention. It was fun. Anyway. We took her to Village Inn because we had a good coupon. We ate our meal then went to pay for the meal at the register. While we were waiting for someone to come take our money Alyssa saw a display of gift cards on a rack grabbed one, handed it to me and said….”I want twenty bucks on it!”

Steve and I looked at each other and thought….”She did not just say that.” I asked her “What did you say?” She replied…”I want twenty bucks on it.”

Do I buy that many gift cards? No. Where did she learn that gift cards need to be loaded with a specific amount? Where did she learn about bucks in relation to money? I don’t know.

Uh-Oh...watch out...she's getting big! It seems like Alyssa is getting bigger and smarter every day so it doesn't surprise me about the gift card story. And regarding the band-aid thing, I did the same thing, even through high school. It was an attention thing.

She is so funny. What happened to wanting quarters and dimes like we did when we were her age? Twenty bucks? That is hilarious.

I'm telling you, try giving her a wet paper towel in place of a band-aid. I've never tried it with kids this young, but it sure works for
4th graders! As for gift cards, next time she asks for one, just go ahead and purchase it in her desired amount and then give it to me. Then she and I will both be happy!

Goes to show how much kids pick up just by being alive. You should start watching your dirty mouth. Just kidding. I miss you.

Oh man--my kids are obsessed with band-aids too. I have to keep them hidden away or they will go through at least 10 a day!

I love the gift card story--that is so classic and too funny!!
