So with two kids in diapers now, I have been more...motivated to get started potty training, not me, I already am. I'm talking about Alyssa.
SO yesterday we started. It's going very well. After one accident at the beginning, so far she been 100% including two poopies!
Question: What do you do with kids at night and at nap time? How do they learn? She so far is unaware that she can get out of bed by herself. Does this have to change now?
Question: How do we leave the house and still go forward with this?
For those of you who care or have something that can help, our methodology is this. Run around the house with a bare bum and easy access to a potty chair. When she does it she gets and few chocolate raisins and or a few M&M's. So far it works as long as we are home and awake.
Our kick awesome potty chair sings a song when it gets wet. I thought that was silly but it has turned out to be most useful as I know the precise second she makes it happen, even if my back is turned or I am in another room. I highly recommend it.
She seems to be enjoying the free-ness of a bare bum and doesn't want to wear princess and pony panties she was excited about. Bummer. (pun intended)
If you have any advice to share please do so. Thanks blog buddies.

Oh what fun...potty training days! You can leave the house during "potty training." You just pack along several extra pairs of underwear. Anytime we went anywhere I kept an eye on the clock and if Isabel hadn't been in the past hour we would go and "try." Good luck! Alyssa sounds like she is doing great!
i will keep you in my prayers...
seriously, i hear girls are easier than boys.
best of luck!
good for you! I am ready to start Raegan again. I have no more ideas. so you need to help me out and let me know what works for you! Happy Potty training!
So she gets chocolate raisins for doing chocolate raisins in the potty? Ok, I know that is gross but have Skyler tell you the chocolate raisins story.
I think your method sounds fabulous. Just thought I'd let you know that I have a lot of girl pull-ups left over and I do not plan to use them for my next child, as he would probably be ashamed of wearing princesses on his backside. Pull-ups are good for naps and nights, especially when they are free! Call me if you want them!
I am also potty trained...just had to get that out there. With Brady, whenever we left the house we would make sure to sit him on the toilet at least once an hour depending on how much he had to drink in the few hours before...like jennie said, make sure to pack extra clothes and underwear. Treats were very effective with Brady, but he'll do anything to get a treat.
We also made sure to make a real big deal out of making it to the potty at home or out of the home. Hana even would sing a song she made up...it is to the tune Good Night Ladies it goes: "Good job Brady, Good job Brady, Good job Brady.......for going pee pee in the potty." A second verse was then added as follows: "Brady gets a treat, Brady gets a treat, Brady gets a treat.......for going pee pee in the potty." You can also change "pee pee" to "poopy," thus appropriate. After a couple of days he would even sing the song to me after I had made a successful trip to void my body or urine or feces...it was fun.
Brady still wears a pull-up at night but makes it through naps fine now, but for the first few months we did pull-ups at nap-time too.
Don't get discouraged...Brady actually had 2 accidents today, one of which involved pulling his pants down in grandma's kitchen and peeing directly on the floor... at least he didn't get his pants wet....grandpa was thrilled.
There will be accidents. The good news is she's agreeing to sit on the potty at all. That's half the battle.
As for leaving the house: Pullups. As for nights: plastic on the bed and panties.
We have a great potty song, too. Not that it will help in the slightest. I wrote it and it is to the tune of Turkey in the Straw.
Ahem...
Well, I walked right in
and I climbed right up
and I sat right down on the toilet
and I went poo poo
and I went pee pee
and then I got a treat for me
do do'n dee
do do'n dee
do do do do do do'n dee
poo poo
poo poo
poo poo pee
do do'n dodo do da do'n do dee
Don't applaude, just throw money.
did you see the today show had on the potty whisperer on? i didnt watch it (dvrs rock) but i thought of you! im sure if you didnt dvr it, you can ck the website.
No advice, just a big congrats to you and Alyssa both. You had some great pointers for me when I finally get brave enough to try it with Riser! Here's to continued success!
my advise is NO pull ups during the day (they send mixed signals) my other advise is The Doctor Phil method. I have not met one person it has failed for. you can order the video on his website.
I'm liking the turkey in the straw potty song that someone posted. I don't have much advice because I'm not the best at potty training. But I do know that we used pull-ups with Hannah for a long time - especially at night and it did take her a long time to stop wetting at night. Abe just seemed to do better at night (mostly) but it might have been because he was way older. Who knows. One of my friends with 5 boys said that she didn't like using pull-ups because she thought her kids had more accidents. But I know I just was so tired of cleaning up messes.
It sounds like you are doing swell with Alyssa.
One of my friends posted about this free dvd about potty training. I have no idea what it is about, but it's worth checking.
