Do you still remember when 30 was old? I do. Cue the flower. If you can believe it, even if you can’t, it’s been ten years since we graduated from Snow College, aka Slow knowledge.
Ten years just isn’t what it used to be. I don’t really remember my first ten years, my middle ten lasted what seemed like a lifetime. Remember how painful it was waiting to turn sixteen? The last ten years…mission…graduating from real college….married…two kids….Bam it all happened so fast.
Ah, but the good old days. My first taste of freedom. Being an adult (if you can call it that). Don’t you agree our experience at Slow couldn’t have been any better. How did we all luck out to have such a great experience there? Who knew going to cheap college could turn out to be so fun and give such long lasting and life shaping experiences. Oh yeah, and an education.
For those of you who shared this experience with me (and those who didn’t but care to read on) here are some reminiscent highlights.
Castillija Hall. (where did that name come from anyway) the apartment style 70’s dorm where the magic happened. I loved living in 110 even if it meant being a Pecial and having everyone hate me for the first 3/4ths of the school year. Original roomies Angela, Lindsay, Cindy, Amy, and Sachiko. We had a great time eating baked potatoes in the microwave (we just cooked them in the microwave we actually ate them in and around the tiny apartment).
I don’t care what people say, it is fun to share one bathroom between six girls. It was my first experience sharing a room and living with girls after living with disgusting brothers for my whole life. I loved all the hair dryers and nail polish and make-up packed into that bathroom.
Remember the unique size and shape of those showers. We could fit (and did fit) like six of us in that thing. It was fun throwing cold water and all manner of things over the shower curtain interrupting what would have been an enjoyable shower.
Who could forget late night walks to Maverick to get Soda and Cinnamon Bears, and samples, great big samples of frozen yogurt. Remember Jake the Maverick guy. How many of us went out with him? Aren’t we glad that didn’t work out! How about a life stuck in Severe County in an unfinished 20 year old house. Dodged a bullet on that one.
Remember Buddy dances and ring ceremonies. It really was fun living in the dorms.
One word…Joel the shopping cart.
Remember our trip to Seattle to take Andrea and Stephanie back because they chickened out. I don’t. You all still hated me then. Thanks guys. Why don’t you just throw a pie in my face and go see James Taylor without me on my birthday.
Remember the Snow College Patty Wagon security vehicle, I mean golf cart. That thing was tough. No one dared break any rules with that thing around.
Did you ever eat in the Badger Den? I did, then I threw up in the bathroom right after, because I rode the traveling virtual reality ride which cost me one dollar. It ended up costing me six dollars since I threw up my five dollar dinner.
Cless Young the devastatingly handsome geography/psychology professor. I don’t care what you say. Bald and Old is Beautiful. I don’t plan to have more kids, but if I do, I hope it’s a boy and I’ll name him Cless.
Remember out late night drives. Sometimes ending up at a table at Denny’s in Salina lusting over Eric the waiter. Other times we ended up in Palisades lake (I’ll spare you the details). All the while screaming Deanna Carter songs the whole way there and back.
Missionaries. How many of us had missionaries we were destined to marry. How many of us married them. That’s right, none. Thanks for wasting our time and money sending you all those packages, it was real fun. Actually we did have fun driving around making cassette (that’s right, cassette) tapes for you and not sending them.
Remember harassing turkey’s, hitting deer or nearly hitting them. Remember all the fun locals. Remember all the little local stores (this was pre-Wal-Mart days) where they would just open and close as they pleased. You could never count on them being open when you needed them.
Hold your breath through Chester, just because you can.
Finally Fat Jack’s Pizza, or should I say..Fat Chicks Pizza, because that’s what it was. Perhaps the best thing about Sanpete County. It’s not Fat Jack’s anymore. Now it’s called Roy’s. Apparently the man that stands at the oven, his name is Roy. I guess he got tired of paying old Fat Jack royalties for using his name so he renamed it Roy’s. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, but the Pizza is tastes the same so who cares. Fat, I mean, overweight sticks, Yum.
This is getting too long to post. I have a lot more things I could reminisce about. I give the rest a one word honorable mention. Here goes:
Jared Newitt. Danith McSchmitty, Anderson Hall, Radio shows, the Snowmobile to west campus, Greenwood Hall, Hogi Yogi, Manti Park, the Bus to Beazulbubb, Kieshell the RS president, Jeremy….and I will always LIKE you. Sitting on the Slow Knowledge sign.

KRISTIN PECIAL...YOU RULE!!! I am laughing my head off. I think the girl at work thinks I am nuts! I really want to cry remembering those days...they were the best! Oh to relive them...I would do it all the same---I will always LIKE you-and all.
I think you pretty much summed up our entire 2 year experience in that post... that was perfect.
Lets all get together this friday down at "fat chicks" for a reunion! Who's in??
I am laughing so hard I'm crying... Wow... 10 years. When did we all get this old!?
...water from the moon anyone??? I was just listening to my ipod and that song came on and I had to say something.
Little Cless Sokol...Clessy they'll call him...And with a name one letter away from "Classy" he's bound to be the most popular kid on the playground. What about that funny guy who's brother was the R.A. for Castelilla... Bob? I saw him at the R.V. show last year... he was wearing a Batman hat like he's seven or something.
Brooklyn...I spent a week there one night.
What do you mean that you don't plan on having any more kids???? Last I heard, you wanted a baker's dozen...
Color me surprised...does Steve know? Does Steve care? Or is the limit imposed by Steve...Wow is all I can say.
one word, A-5's that was where all the magic...
Adam.. this one time,...
Shopko and all the impulsive "borrowing" that went down. Scary Larry. $1 movies downtown Ogden those were fun times too.
you were one of those annoying college kids, werent you?
xoxo
You're locked into the KAGE!! Many a song take me right back to the good ol' days of sitting next to you in the radio booth. Many other songs take me back to the dorm (recall the signs on our cupboards?). Oh those days were so fun, it's hard to think they actually helped me grow at all.
I've spent a lot of time reading your whole blog site today...reminds me of why I like you so much and why I should keep in touch with you. Maybe by reading a few blogs linked from your site, I'll be inspired to make my own...
Thanks for calling! Mindy
Although I was a year behind you, and didn't get the fun of all the stuff you wrote, Deanna Carter brought back memories. I still can't listen to her CD without thinking of you guys. Which also brough back aerobics and strawberry zingers for me....Thanks for the post!
