Kristin, I really value your and Steve's friendship, so please don't take it the wrong way when I say I had a completely different take on the president's speech last night. Our country has been on the road to socialism long before Obama took office, but he has definitely picked up the pace. Instead of saving the economy, I believe the President's actions are sure to prolong the economic down turn. And in the process, his misguided government expansion programs are eroding the princiles of freedom this country was founded upon. Anyway, I won't drag this on. If you're interested in more of what I have to say, please visit my blog, Analytical Insights. In the mean time, I still hope we can come over and the play the Wii again some time soon. -Jimmy
I hope for a lot of things... for instance, I hope to get home from work today and get to take a nap... not likely. I hope to one day own an actual lightsaber... not likley either... oh well.
Jimmy - I read a little of your blog at work today...I look forward to reading more when I have more time...great stuff.
I read your blog Jimbo and I have to say...It was way over my head. I finished college and everything, but I had a hard time digesting that. If you are writing to me as an audience, I need you to dummy it down a bit.
What I really want to say is... What can I do for my country? I mean besides argue about what we should do/should have done?
Maybe the Obama plan is right, maybe it is wrong. That doesn't change my question.
It is a big social problem, so maybe there is a big social answer.
All I know is I want my water to keep coming out of the faucets. I want for my toilets to flush. I want light when I flip the switch.
I say, lets just give them a shot. If it doesn't work, it four or eight years we'll elect you and do it your way and see if you can fix it.
But yes, come over and play Wii anytime and bring the family.
I really thought the speech was positive and motivating. And I like that you write about this stuff. (It is more interesting than how many times your kid pooped today or what groceries you bought.) Back to the speech. He talked about reading to our kids. I like that plan. That is one of the best things that a politician has ever said. I was cheering. However, I do not like the Reward Failure Plan. It is bad parenting. As for your friend Stacey, The law of Consecration did not work with Joseph Smith in charge, I don't think it will work with Obama in charge either. The only person that could make it work is Jesus. Maybe he will run in 2012. You need to borrow the socialism and communism books that I have from Charlie written by Ezra Taft Benson. He published quite a few books on the topic. It really is a moral issue. I am having to not be close-minded as I read these books. This is coming from a registered democrat so I don't think I have been brainwashed to be republican. I feel like I am open to seeing both sides. My views have changed in the last 3 years on topics like the death penalty and things like this. My views on socialism stemming from my mission. But also as you know, I know too many LDS temple recommend holders that get WIC and CHIP, but then turn around and have plastic surgery, lie on their taxes, buy brand new cars, and have cable and I-pods. Socialism will ALWAYS be abused. It was abused by the same saints that gave up almost everything else for the church. They could practice polygamy, but not the law of consecration. How does that work? I would so rather give other people my money than my man. But that is life. I do very much agree with you that we need to quit complaining and be positive. We are a nation of whiners. We are all so wealthy even losing half of what we have.
What is so surprising??? That I haven't jumped on the Obama bandwagon yet???
I have nothing against being positive and having hope... I am just tired of hearing people claim that Obama is THE ANSWER and that he can solve all of our problems with the hope that he preaches. That seems a bit ridiculous.
It's like that whole "faith without works is dead" that you hear all the time... hope is nothing without actions. Anyone can preach hope and call for change... It's gonna take a bit more than hope for things to change.
I think what I like about what Jimmy said is that bailing out these select companies goes against free enterprise and so many other principles this county was founded on. If one of the big companies fall, another one will rise to the occasion. That is unless we bail out the big guys and not let them pay for their mistakes... almost reminds me of how famous people never pay for their crimes the way "normal" people do. If these companies can't stand on their own, why bail them out???
Oh and Jacquelynn, Evan pooped twice today... just thought you'd like to know.
Awww, Kristin--I heart you! I was worried you might not like my comment. I did find a cool widget from your friend's blog, so at least there was some benefit from his comment. ;) I'm with you! Let's all just get along and love each other and be good spirited AMERICANS! Let's be done with the blame game and just move on and do the best we can with what we have to work with.
Oh, I did want to say that I understand hope itself will not fix the situation we're in, but it will inspire people to do something and band together. We can be powerful together with positive intentions. (Yes, I'm a bit new-age.) When hope is lost, tragic things happen. People take their lives when there is no hope. That is what I meant by saying there's a lot to be said for inspiring hope. Amen!
wow, Kristin, you stirred up quite the little blogersation (rather than conversation...) on this little poliblog (political blog..... funny huh?). I won't say anything about the politics part, cause I am not political. I do have my opinions, though. And I do want to say, I agree no matter our opinion, we need to ask ourselves what we can do to better ourselves, our families, and our country. I firmly believe what Ronald Reagan said, "All great change in America begins at the dinner table." So, because I am not so political, I am going to do what I can at my dinner table. And, Evan and Jacquelynn, I don't know you but my kid TOTALLY wasted both of yours. He has pooped over 20 times in the past three days (diarrhea...). Take that!
What's so wrong with socialism when whatever we're doing is not working? We can't do things the same way and expect different results, right? I think you were right. There is no one right plan, and there is no other option for president for 4 more years. Hence, we should support the plan we have.

I agree!! And after listening to his address last night I thought, if nothing else, this man can instill hope! And there is A LOT to be said for that!
Forgive me for saying this in response to another comment, but isn't the law of concecration socialism/communism at its finest? Just a thought...
Okay, please don't ban me from your blog for that... I'm ducking back into my world now.

I was just surprised that you had an opinion and shared it, that's all. I meant it as a pleasent surprise. I should have specified.
