Who's that Dirty Girl...?

Some of my most adventurous friends collaborated with me this weekend to become the Real House Wives of the Wasatch Front for a Muddy Obstacle race called the Dirty Girl Run which benefited some kind of lady cancer, not breast.

I have been looking forward to this race for months now. Not in the sense that I trained at all for it, because only ran one mile since last August, and that was two nights before the race. I have mostly been looking forward to behaving badly as I have seen in clips from the Real Housewives of Jersey and Atlanta and of course my favorite housewives, The Real Housewives of Late Night.

I was looking forward to dressing up in my best cocktail dress (of which I bought at Ross for $9.99)and my new ring Steve bought me (notice it in this photo) when we renewed our vows at (7 years.)It's about 25 karats or so, and yes it's real. You can tell it's real from the iridescent paint over it that makes it glimmer and cast pink rainbows. My friends Jenny and Angela pictured here with me were very jealous of my ice.

I also, as you can tell from this photo, gave myself a Snooki inspired poof in my hair.
It was awesome. I felt beautiful, and I may keep this hair-do in my rotation.

Here's me and my Cousin Georgette Before.

And After.

We actually did get really very muddy, but there were so many water holes that we got washed off pretty good.

It really was a very mud riddled course. There was also a lot of water. The water was straight from the Big Cottonwood Creek I could tell because the instant the water hit your skin, you wished you were dead. The water was indescribably cold. There was one section of the race where we were running in this diverted river water (not in the river itself, that would be ludicrous)up to about my knees. For the first five second it was really fun and very refreshing because my legs and feet were hot from running. The next second, we started to get panicked because the water was so icy and we couldn't see how far we would be running in it because there were so many other runners and trees in the way of our view. My legs in my calves started cramping and I thought about jumping out of the water and climbing in the trees to get out of it. Just then we got out. Really we were only in the water less than 45 seconds.

My team mates were just as fun as any other real house wive you may have never met. There was plenty of pushing, shoving and mud slinging. By the end, we were all still friends and covered with mud.

Here's Angela and Jenny with their finish line moments.
There was a suds machine making massive amounts of suds to run though at the end. Everyone covered in bubbles.

Steve came to support and brought the girls to see the spectacle.
They enjoyed the animals at the farm while we ran. Steve had a busy hour managing their thirst and interest in treats.

Georgette made a new friend along the race. She had a hop-on. We found this new friend as we stripped off our muddy shoes and socks seen here.

Here's the hop-on. Yes, this was traveling in her sock.

The course was really great. Hay bales to hurdle, tires to run through.
There was two walls to hoist yourself over. One of the walls was six foot high. There were two guys there helping most the women over, but me and Georgie were able to get ourselves over thank you very much. I credit that to my Power lifting class I have been attending for the last several months. There is no way I would have been able to do that a few months ago.

Since the race happened over the 4Th of July weekend, we were on a tight schedule of fun. The schedule included a fresh berry run to Costco, which I had the pleasure of doing by myself, still in my dress and still covered in a good amount of mud. Surprisingly, only one person noticed me in my mud covered cocktail dress and asked me what I had been through. I also saw my friend Jenny's parents at Costco. Jenny was on my team and her parents had just come from witnessing the race. They looked stunned to see me there in my glory. That's me though. I have no shame. I am shameless. I'll do anything.

I am looking forward to my next run in the mud. I absolutely loved doing this. Next time I think I will spring for the Dirty Dash instead of the Dirty Girl. Some of the feminine product humor and costuming was a little more than tasteless for my taste. I like funny, but this was more on the crude side of humor. We kept it classy though, I mean....look at us.
If we're not a classy bunch, I don't know what is. Plus, I think it would be fun to include some of our man friends on the team especially husbands.

Here's our shoes and socks that we did salvage believe it or not. Mainly for the next mud run.

Thanks Angela, Jenny, Georgie, Chante, Chante's sister in law let's do it again only dirtier next time! I had so much fun!

I had the same thought afterward, too, that I think I'd much prefer the dirty dash next year. Or this gem I just heard about- The Tough Mudder (http://toughmudder.com/). Okay, maybe only if we're really insane. I had lots of fun at the dirty girl, tho! Thanks for letting me be part of it :)
